Zinc die casting for small, precise, detailed parts.
Zinc die casting in Zamak alloys gives fine detail, thin walls and excellent dimensional stability. It's the right choice for smaller precision components where aluminium can't hold the detail. Solstice sources zinc castings through audited Far East partner foundries, finishes them to your drawing and manages quoting, tooling, quality and logistics from the UK.
When to choose it
When zinc is the right choice
Fine detail
Zinc flows into sharper features, crisper text and logos, and thinner walls than aluminium.
Dimensional stability
Tight, repeatable tolerances on small parts, often with little or no machining.
Finish
An excellent base for chrome, nickel and zinc plating and for powder coating.
Tool life
Zinc's lower casting temperature is gentler on tooling, so tools last longer.
Weight
Zinc is heavier than aluminium, which suits parts that benefit from a solid, quality feel.
Zinc at a glance
Alloy choice
Zamak 3 or Zamak 5?
Zamak 3
The general-purpose alloy, with good castability, stability and plating performance.
Zamak 5
Adds copper for higher strength and hardness, at slightly lower ductility.

Finishing & parts
Finishing and typical parts
Finishing
Shot blasting, polishing, powder coating and plating (chrome, nickel, zinc), plus drilling, tapping and assembly of inserts, coordinated in the same order.
Typical parts
Handles, locks and hardware, decorative trim, connector bodies, small housings and precision mechanisms.
FAQ
Common questions
Is zinc stronger than aluminium?
Zamak alloys have good strength and impact resistance for small parts, but they're heavier. For larger or weight-sensitive parts, aluminium HPDC is usually better.
Can zinc parts be plated?
Yes. Zinc is one of the best die-cast metals for decorative and protective plating.
